On November 19, 2005, we
at Our Redeemer were treated to another great meal and a very
enjoyable evening of music provided by Mr. Jacob Garn and his
cello. A little of Jacob's background is shown here as well as
being followed by a few pictures of the evening. He is one
very active young man.
Jacob
enjoys and is very involved with playing music. He plays both
the cello and the tenor saxophone. He has been playing the
cello for seven years and the saxophone for five years. He is
currently a junior at Westside high school.
Jacob
was first introduced to the cello in the fourth grade via the
string music program offered by the Richmond County school
system. After the first couple of years he started taking
private cello lessons in addition to the regular instruction
offered by this string program. He currently is studying with
Dr. Christine Crookall at Augusta State University. He has
attended several string music camps during the summer at
Augusta State University and the University of Georgia. He
has been the principal cellist for several years for both the
Greater Augusta Youth Orchestra and the high school Chamber
Orchestra for Richmond County. He has received numerous
awards over the past years for his involvement in these
groups.
He
started playing the tenor saxophone for band in middle school
in the sixth grade. This is his third year playing in the
high school marching band. He also is taking private lessons
from Dr. Robert Foster at Augusta State University. He has
participated in several band music camps during the summer at
Augusta State University. He has played with the Jazz
Ensemble band offered by Augusta State for high school
students.
Jacob is also involved in swimming in addition to his music.
He swam year round for four years with the Greater Augusta
Swimming team. He competes with his high school swim team and
during the summer with his neighborhood swim team. |
