ORLC Health
Cabinet at Work |
|
The Health Cabinet oversees a
variety of programs, including a Health-oriented bulletin
board and the quarterly visits of the Shepeard Community
Center Blood Mobile to the church. |
 |
 |
Health Cabinet Volunteers provide
Blood Pressure Checks as shown here a member being checked by
Dot Dromsky. Regular blood pressure checks are provided. |
|
Giving the gift of life. The Shepeard Blood Mobile visits Our
Redeemer once each quarter. An average of 20 to 25 members
donate each quarter. Many who do not donate at the church,
visit the various centers in the area. They are located on
Wrightsboro Road, Davis Road or Pine Log Road in Aiken. We
urge you to take advantage of the opportunity to perhaps save
someone's life through just a little gift of blood. One can
donate every 55 to 60 days. |
 |
|
In 1997, the Health Cabinet was
awarded a Congregational Health and Hope Grant from Wheat
Ridge Ministries to work within the congregation to promote
healthy hearing and also to work with the members of the
Augusta Deaf Mission in health and safety related areas.

FAREWELL TO OUR PARISH NURSES |
|
We
have two very special members of our congregation whom we are
honoring today for their dedicated service as Parish Nurses
over the past ten years. Will LaVon Dunker and Dot Dromsky
please come forward?
On behalf of the Health Cabinet
of Our Redeemer and the congregation, we want to thank you for
your untiring and selfless service to improve and maintain the
health and spiritual wellness of our members. LaVon and Dot
completed a 3 year course of study to be certified as Parish
Nurses and, over the past ten years, have contributed a
combined average of 40-60 volunteer hours a month. They were
pioneers for the program in this area and our district and
attended district and Synodical meetings to share with others
how to initiate and maintain a Parish Nurse Program. |

|
|
They made countless home visits
for members after hospitalizations and utilized their nursing
expertise and spiritual guidance to assist members to
wellness. They monitored blood pressures monthly, transported
members to doctors appointments, picked up and delivered
medications for the shut-ins, started a medical equipment
check-out program, ordered and maintained health education
pamphlets, put together first aid kits for multiple areas in
the church, acquired an AED and initiated CPR training for
ushers, worked on the fire safety program and were
instrumental in initiating a health component for the Deaf
Ministry program. They made home visits to assess and
coordinate safety devices for the elderly. They coordinated
the installation of safety devices such as smoke detectors and
TTY devices for the deaf and hard of hearing. |

|

|
|
God truly blessed us with your
loving and caring nursing expertise as our Parish Nurses.
LaVon, enjoy your retirement as of March 1; Dot, continue to
enjoy being able to travel with Joe and visit your family and
friends. Your ministry of health and healing among us will
truly be missed. |

|
The Health Cabinet members want
to present you with a gift as a token of their appreciation.
Chris Christensen, Ken Kutlik, Barb Kienzle and Cindy
Moen-Nogueras express their thanks to you both. It has been a
pleasure to work with you over the years and - May God Bless
You Both! |
