On May 1, 2005, Dr. Hollis was ordained into the Ministry of
the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod and installed as
Associate Pastor of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Augusta,
Georgia. THE SOLEMN RITE OF ORDINATION is the Church’s way
of setting individuals aside for public ministry of Word and
Sacrament. Invoking the Holy Spirit to be with the Ordinand
and with the Church, the individual is set apart for this
particular form of servanthood within the Church.
Ordination does not depend so much on a person seeking the
office as it does the office seeking the person. This, in the
Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod, ordination comes about only
after a long process of learning and evaluation. In Greg’s
case, this involved...
· Endorsement by Our Redeemer and its Board of
Elders and Pastor;
· Evaluation by the Florida-Georgia District and
the Seminary for admission to the DELTO (Distance
Education Leading To Ordination) program of the Church;
· A six-year program of study, with regular
academic, personal and spiritual evaluation. During this
entire time, Greg also served as a Vicar here at Our
Redeemer;
· Final evaluation and endorsement by the
Faculty of Concordia Seminary, Saint Louis, Missouri, and
agreement by the Council of Presidents of the Lutheran
Church – Missouri Synod; and
· Finally, the reception and acceptance of a
call to serve in the ministry.
Once all of these requirements have been fulfilled, the
President of the district in which the calling congregation is
located authorizes the Ordination.
We are grateful today for the authorization granted by The
Rev. Dr. Gerhard C. Michael, Jr., President of the
Florida-Georgia District, LC-MS, to Pastor Karl J. Dunker for
doing the Ordination and Installation.
We ask the continued presence and power of the Spirit of
the Living God upon Greg’s ministry here at Our Redeemer!
