Young At Hearts (YAH), 2007

On January 27th nineteen of the Young at Hearts group of Our Redeemer traveled to Abbeville, South Carolina and enjoyed the performance of Honky Tonk Angels at the Abbeville Theater. All enjoyed the performance and the supper at Yoder's Restaurant later. Fine food and fellowship.

Young At Hearts (YAH), 2006

On November 14, 2006, ORLC's Young at Hearts Group met in the fellowship hall for some good fellowship and naturally some very fine food. We do love to eat. While attendance was very good there is always room for you and a few more. We meet every month so do check the Newsletter for events that are coming up. A couple exciting months on the agenda. We were privileged to have as our guest speaker, Mr. Gary Brewer. Gary is our local representative for Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. He explained to us just "Who is Thrivent Financial for Lutherans". Thrivent is a faith-based Fraternal Organization working within the membership of the Lutheran Church. They are heavily involved with Habitat for Humanity, the Katrina recovery work and many community projects. Thank You Gary!

On Tuesday, July 11, 2006 our Young at Hearts Group enjoyed our usual potluck dinner, where we always have more food than we could possibly eat. This editor suspects that each of our ladies tries to put out the very best dishes they can for these gatherings.

The food we have each month, however, this meeting we were privileged to have as our speaker Dr. Russell Brown. Dr. Brown held the attention of this group as he informed us of many items of the history of Augusta and this general area. He especially covered the military history of the area. Believe me, no one went to sleep during his presentation.

Dr. Russell K. Brown is a retired Army Officer who writes and speaks on military and local history and genealogy. He is a native of Brooklyn, NY, but has lived in Georgia for thirty-five (35) years. He has been an undergraduate and graduate college instructor and retired from the Southern Nuclear Company at Plant Vogtle in 1999.

Dr. Brown holds a doctorate in U. S. History. He is the author of four books, three of them on Georgia in the Civil War, and he has edited a book on stories about the Masters Golf Tournament and the National Golf Course for the benefit of the Augusta-Richmond County Historical Society. In addition, he is the author of more than fifty magazine and newspaper articles, anecdotes, contributions and book reviews. He is editor of the Historical Society Magazine, Past President of the William Few Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution, and a member of the Augusta Civil War Round Table.

Dr. Brown and his wife, Jin, live in Grovetown. His youngest son, Steve, lives and works in Atlanta.

Young At Hearts (YAH), 2005

On August 13th, the Young at Hearts group traveled to Abbeville, South Carolina to attend the showing of Foxfire. This presentation was enjoyed by all. Following the performance we all invaded the Yoder's Dutch Kitchen for supper. They do serve some fine food and desserts.
Young At Hearts (YAH), 2004

On Tuesday, December 7th, we will go to the Tuesday Alive at St. Paul Episcopal Church downtown. After that we will go out to eat, place to be determined. There will be a sign-up sheet for this outing the end of November on the table in the connector. Invite your friends.

YOUNG AT HEARTS ENTERTAINED BY
THE AUGUSTA CHAMBER SINGERS

On November 11th, we were privileged to have as our guests, The Augusta Chamber Singers. A group of ladies from the Augusta Area putting their beautiful voices into song, led by Director, Steve Patteson and accompanied by Dianna Clarkson. We have been privileged to have enjoyed their singing a few times and each time seems to get better. After their presentation, as one would expect, we all enjoyed a pot-luck lunch.

YOUNG AT HEARTS TOUR REDCLIFFE PLANTATION

On July 8th, the Young at Hearts (YAH) Group met at the church and traveled to the Redcliffe Plantation near Beech Island, SC. It was a very enjoyable, informative and educational outing. A good time was had by all to include a picnic lunch, eaten under some of the trees that are over 200 years old. Very beautiful for their age.
