Christian Education

Sunday Morning Program for Children

Nursery:

Childcare is available during the 8:15am and 11:00am Service as well as during the Christian Education hour each and every Sunday morning.

Childcare for infants-toddlers age 3 is provided by our regular nursery staff.  The nursery is located on the ground floor of our main building and can be easily accessed from the main entry doors off the lower parking lot.

Childcare is also provided during weekday Bible study and for special congregational events (special services or fellowship events).  Please contact Sheri Agee in the office at (706) 733-6076 if you need childcare assistance on these occasions.

Children's Sunday School:

With a goal of building lasting, meaningful relationships between kids and God, kids and kids, and kids and adults, Our Redeemer's Sunday School uses the FaithWeaver Friends curriculum Fall through Spring for 2 year olds through 4th grade.   At FaithWeaver Friends, each child experiences an incredible, personal friendship with Jesus through opening celebrations and Discovery Centers.  From crafts to music to snacks-every engaging activity drives the weekly Bible Point home.   And through it all, children discover they have a real friend in Jesus.  Connecting God's Word to the learner's real world moves learning beyond information to a growing relationship with Jesus that transforms lives.   Students understand that Jesus isn't someone who lived years ago, but is alive today and wants to be a part of their lives.

During the opening celebration together, everyone joins in singing and praising God.  Then they explore the weekly Bible story in a lively, memorable way, digging into the Bible story with a cuddly puppet named Theo who helps them remember the Bible Point.   Kids do everything with their "Circle of Friends" - a small multi-age group of 5 to 7 children.  Because everyone stays together for the entire quarter, Circles ensure friendship connections and personal attention. Multi-age groups really do work well together!

Games, projects, snacks, and more!  Kids jump into their Circles of Friends (small groups), and rotate through action-packed Discovery Centers - where the Bible Point is reinforced at every surprising turn!  Every activity reinforces the week's Bible Point, so it's only natural for kids to live out the Bible Point in the following week.  Friends has kids "doing," "teaching," and "growing!"

Join us each Sunday from 9:40 a.m. until 10:40 a.m. in the Education Wing, downstairs in Room 303.

Parents are encouraged to attend with their younger children and experience Faith Weaver Friends for themselves.

FaithWeaver and FaithWeaver Friends are published by Group Publishing Company.  While Group is a non denominational publishing company that adheres to Christian beliefs, all materials from Group are reviewed to ensure they do not conflict with the Lutheran Confession of the LCMS.

Summer Sunday School

Various Bible studies and classes for children of all ages are offered year round during the Christian Education hour 9:40am-10:40am each and every Sunday morning.  During the summer months classes are often combined and room locations may change.  Please see News and Events for our Summer Program information.

5th Grade Pre-Confirmation Class

While our Children's Sunday School goes through 4th grade we recently reviewed and modified our Confirmation Program/.Middle School Program and added the Pre-Confirmation Class for fifth graders.  The Board of Christian Education felt that for students to have a meaningful and successful Confirmation experience that preparation is key.

Pre-Confirmation class utilizes the Concordia Publishing House for the 5th and 6th grade (pre-confirmations materials).  Students will be introduced to the Concordia Study Bible, taught how to use the study bible, review the books of the Old and New testament, memorize the books of the New testament, etc.  In addition, students will study, understand and memorize The Ten Commandments and The Apostles Creed and be instructed in an overview of The Law and Gospel.

The Pre-Confirmation class meets in the Education Wing, downstairs in Room 311.

Middle School Program:

Our 6th and 7th grade Confirmation Class meets on Sunday mornings during the Christian Education Hour 9:40am -10:40am.  Although we begin the Confirmation program in 6th grade if you have an older child who wishes to begin Confirmation they are more than welcome to attend.  If you have any questions about Confirmation please contact Pastor Schwartz at (706) 733-6076.

Students will be provided with their own Concordia Study Bible, Confirmation workbook and Luther's Small Catechism when classes begin in August.  The course will be divided into Year A: 10 Commandments/Apostle's Creed and Year B: Lord's Prayer/Baptism/Confession.  Students will need to attend class regularly, complete required assignments, submit sermon note summaries, serve as service acolyte and participate in youth service projects, and attend the Confirmation/Youth retreat in December.

In addition, 2nd year students will meet with Pastor Schwartz on a monthly basis from Sept.-March on the second Sunday from1pm-2:30pm.During this time the Lord's Supper lessons as will as practical application for their faith lives will be presented.  Faith stories will be directed by Pastor in his classes with the Confirmands in the sessions following in Jan., Feb., and March.

The Confirmation class meets in the Education Wing, downstairs in Room 306.  Instructors are Delores Schwartz and Kala Redlin.

Our 8th Grade Post Confirmation Class meets on Sunday mornings during the Christian Education Hour 9:40am-10:40am.  The class is designed to provide young newly confirmed members of the congregation the opportunity to continue and strengthen their training and t further develop their faith lives.

The Post Confirmation class meets in the Education Wing, downstairs in Room 305.

Beginning in Augusta 2009 the Confirmation Class and Post Confirmation Class will use the Faith Inkubators materials "Head to Heart".  This program allows students to experience the basic Bible theme at church, discussing it within a small group of friends, and then bring it on home where the real faith incubation happens every night.  "Head to Heart" provides over 90 lessons of engaging, brain-based teaching material including object lessons, art, music, game shows, skits, Power Point presentation, beautiful home journals, and more and wraps if all in a small-group system that surrounds kids with a whole lot of love and care.  It is this system that brings life to what has traditionally been one of the most challenging ministries of the church, and equips parents to be active participants in the faith lives of their children.  The content and the theology crucial to faith formation is taught in engaging and multi-sensory ways designed to make that content stick.

High School Class:

Young members and guests in 9th-12th grades meet on Sunday morning during the Christian Education Hour, 9:30am-10:40am, in the Luther Inn located downstairs in the main building.  The Lutheran Inn is a large multi purpose room (kitchen, game tables and equipment, large screen TV and small group discussion area) that is also the location for our Youth Group weekly meetings and program activities.  The High School students discuss a variety of biblical topics focusing on current issues in a small group setting.

Youth Message:

There is a special time set aside at each of our worship services every Sunday where the children come forward during the Worship Service to hear a message from Pastor written especially for them. This message may be from one of the readings or the subject may be the same as the more traditional adult sermon for that week, but the message is always ground in the word and designed towards helping our younger members develop their faith lives.
